client: Restaurant Søren K
completed: 1999
Restaurant Søren K is situated in the Royal Library in Copenhagen, and enjoys a magnificent panoramic view of the city’s harbour entrance. In terms of design character and materials, the restaurant exhibits continuity with the design idiom and character of the library. The materials palette is restricted, comprising concrete, sandstone, oiled maple, pale leather and stainless steel surfaces - with textures accentuated by the lighting. In the restaurant, a clean simplicity delivers a backdrop which heightens the aesthetic dimension of the culinary experience as well as that of social interaction and the sense of presence.
